IMPROVING GROSS MOTORIC SKILL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH MONTESSORI METHOD ON CHILDREN AGES 3-5 YEARS

Abstract
Background: Montessori is a method of teaching children based on children activity. It can activate gross motoric skill development on children. Purpose: This study is to find out the effect of Montessori method on the gross motoric skill development of children aged 3-5 years. Methods: This study is a quasy experiment research with pre and post test with control group design approach. Sampling method used is purposive sampling. Sample size are 40 children consisting of 21 children in Nur Hidayah Ages Early Chidhood Education (treatment group) and 19 children in Bina Kasih I Ages Early Chidhood Education (control group). Research instrument is Denver Development Screening Test (DDST) II. Statistical data analysis used is the Mann-Whitney test and Wilcoxon. Results: The results showed that the result of statistic test with Mann-Whitney was got p=0,005 for gross skill motoric after intervention. The results showed that the result of statistic test with Wilcoxon was got p=0,014 for gross skill motoric. Conclusion: Montessori method can improve gross motoric skill development of children aged 3-5 years in Nur Hidayah Ages Early Chidhood Education. Montessori method is effective for improving of gross skill motoric especially combination of Montessori method with engklek to stimulate gross motoric development. It is recommended that parents can pay more attention in optimizing the gross motoric skill development of their children.
