THE CORRELATION BETWEEN DIET AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ON PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROM OF THE STUDENTS

Abstract
Abstract. Premenstrual syndrome is a complex condition consists of one or more physical symptoms or psychological symptoms that start from luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. Premenstrual syndrome is caused by various factors such as lifestyle factors. Unhealthy lifestyle such as lack of physical activity and unhealthy diet are the cause of premenstrual syndrome. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between diet and physical activity on premenstrual syndrome of first grade students at STIKES Bali. This study employed analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were female students at STIKES Bali. There were 75 respondents recruited as the sample which were chosen by using Simple Random Sampling technique. The data were collected by using dietary questionnaire, physical activity questionnaire and premenstrual syndrome questionnaire. Spearman Rho test showed that there was a significant correlation between diet and physical activity on premenstrual syndrome with p-value 0.001. The conclusion of this study is the more healthy diet and physical activity done by students, premenstrual syndrome symptoms will be decreased. Therefore, the students are expected to maintain their diet and do physical activity regularly.
