Javanese Cultural Affection for Youth by utilizing Sriwedari Wayang Performance

Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology progresses greatly influence to the behavior and mindset of todays teenagers. Appreciation and a sense of belonging to the Javanese culture is increasingly diminished in adolescents today, especially in the city of Solo. Starting from the way of dressing, politeness and language, the youth of Solo have started to imitate the western and Jakarta style. Whereas the city of Solo has a Sriwedari wayang performance that contains the message of the importance of manners. The problem is how to make the Solo urban teenagers appreciate Javanese culture through Sriwedari wayang performances. Through phenomenology approach by collecting data using observation, interviews and literature study and using interactive data analysis found that in wayang performance have 3 important aspect (spectacle, order, and guidance) which can be used as media of Javanese cultural appreciation for adolescent, specially urban adolescent. The benefits of this research are the result, a model for a cultural affection campaign for regions throughout Indonesia, which each have high-value inheritance arts, thus building an Indonesian society that, despite its diverse cultures, is Indonesian self identity.
