Abstract
Kepel leaves ethanol extract (Stelochocarpus burahol) was reported to have a potency to reduce blood uric acid levels in rats and was not significantly different from allopurinol (P <0.05). This study aimed to identify the standard parameters of simplicia and ethanol extract of Kepel leaves for the medicinal raw materials development. The simplicia standardization was carried out to determine the non-specific and specific parameters and the chemical contained. Non-specific parameters were consisted of water content, loss of drying, ash content, water soluble extractive and ethanol soluble extractive concentration, heavy metal contamination, microbes and pesticides. Specific parameters were included a TLC profile and the total flavonoid content. The total flavonoid contain was calculated to be equivalent to the number of quercetin in gram per 100 g of the sample. The results showed that the simplicia and the ethanol extract of Kepel leaves were appropriate to the standards set for both non-specific and specific parameters. Based on the examination, the simplicia contained the total flavonoid of 0.52% w/w, while the viscous and dry extract of Kepel leaves were contained of 13.04% w/w and 11.02% w/w, respectively.
