Abstract
The aims of this research are to analyze: the difference of the improvement mathematical problem-solving ability between students taught by guided discovery learning with the students taught by direct learning, and the interaction between mathematics learning with students early mathematical abilities on students mathematical problem-solving abilities. This study is quasi experiment study. The population of this study was the 8th grade students of MTsN Stabat. Then, the sample was taken by using random sampling method, with VIII-1 were chosen as experimental 1 class and VIII-2 as experimental 2 class. The experimental 1 class was treated by using guided discovery learning model while the experimental 2 class was by using direct learning model. The result of this study shows that: there is enhancement difference that there is enhancement difference of student mathematical problem-solving ability taught by guided discovery learning and taught by direct learning model, and there is no interaction between the learning model and the initial ability (high, medium, low) on students mathematical problem-solving abilities.
