Abstract
THE USE OF ANTI-LANGUAGE TO IMPROVE THE ABILITY OF ELEMENTARY STUDENTS OF GRADE 5 IN UNDERSTANDING THE ENGLISH GRAMMAR Mery Silalahi Universitas Sari Mutiara Indonesia mery.silalahi@yahoo.com ABSTRACT Learning English as a foreign language, making English lessons to be a difficult lesson to understand, coupled with grammar which is complicated and far different from our mother tongue, Indonesian language. The formulation patterns found in grammar usually must be memorized by students, but most students memorize only just to be able to answer the questions of the English lessons. Formulations on English grammar usually form a monotonous pattern that is difficult to memorize. The activity of changing the formulas found in English grammar into unique and funny words, sentences, and also abbreviations will form an anti-language that can be created by students in accordance with the creativity of each student. This study aims to study the anti-language influence on the ability of the elementary students of grade 5 in understanding English grammar. The population of this study is the elementary students of grade 5 SD Asisi Medan. This study will be an experimental study with a control group and intervention where the use of anti-language methods was conducted on the intervention group but in the control group will not be given any treatment. Data collection will use pretest and posttest which will be done to the intervention group and the control group. The data obtained were analyzed using univariate analysis and independent T-test.
