Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of applying an environment-based learning approach to the ability of elementary school students- number sense from three regions that describe the geographic topology of Riau Province, namely oil palm plantation areas, coastal areas, and watersheds. The research design used was Pree and Postest Group Design with a sample consisting of 2 elementary schools representing each region and the total number of students was 125 people. The research data was collected using by test and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics using a two-mean difference test. From the results of data analysis obtained by conclusions: (1) there is an increase in the number sense ability of students for each region with varying percentages; (2) overall students, there is an increase in the number sense ability of students with a significant amount of 14.9% after giving action. Based on the two results of this study, it can be concluded that the implementation of an environment-based learning approach contributes significantly to the improvement of students- number sense abilities.
