Abstract

Nutrition education for children is essential as the process determines children-s diet preferences and health in the future. Some life-threatening situations, such as malnutrition, poor access to clean water, and lack of clean sanitation have emphasized the necessity of teaching self-hygiene from early ages. Nutrition education correlates closely with the use of learning media. Such media, e.g., learning video, plays a major role in early childhood education as it helps teachers meet the learning objectives. The objective of the present study is twofold: it is to develop learning video in teaching self-hygiene for group B kindergarten students. It also is intended to examine the effectiveness of the video. Employing a development model by J. Moonen, this research and development study relied on observation, interview, and questionnaire. T test was also used to analyze the results of the students- pre- and post-test. The result shows that the average score of pre- and post-test reaches 23.36 and 33.86 respectively, meaning that there is an increase in the score. Further, the result of the hypothesis testing proves that t count (15.37) > t table (2.05). Considering these findings, the use of video is significant to the improvement of the students- knowledge regarding self-hygiene.
