Abstract
This quasi-experimental study aimed to apply the self-efficacy concept for community health volunteers to care for pre-hypertension group of people. The program focused on training community health volunteers to improve their abilities for caring pre-hypertension people. The research was carried out in Kantarawichai District, Mahasarakham Province. Participants were 41 health volunteers who worked as a health volunteer in a community more than 1 year. Data was conducted using a questionnaire asked about knowledge of hypertension and self-efficacy of caring pre-hypertension people. Training programme was applied for all participants. They were assessed about knowledge of hypertension at before and three months after attending training programme. The results demonstrated that most participants were female (85.4 %), and aged 60 years and over (34.1%). The majority had completed in secondary school level of education (36.6%). Significance difference was found on the knowledge and self-efficacy between before and after the training programme (p < 0.05). The participants also showed a significant improvement in their both knowledge and self-efficacy after the training programme such as an assessment of blood pressure levels, consumption behaviour, body mass index, stress, and risk of hypertension. Recommendation was made as the training program benefits for health volunteer on their knowledge and working confidence. Further study should be training health volunteers to other aspects of care to make them more confidence.
