Abstract

Ability of problem solving is closely related to representation. A complicated problem would be much simpler when the utilization of representation is in accordance with problem. Process of developing representation is influenced by the proper perception and precise comprehension of basic concept. This paper discusses the result of study which uses quantitative method to analyze statistically the difference problem solving ability that is related to level of basic concept ability namely: low, mediocre, and high as well as analyze statistically the difference of problem solving ability based on types of representation that is abstract, visual, and multiple toward the science problem. This study is conducted at four primary schools involving 137 students in Bandung, Indonesia. The result of study shows that there is the difference of problem solving ability related to level of basic concept ability however there is no difference problem solving ability based on the types of representation.
