Abstract

The function of drilling mud is to lift drill cuttings to surface while maintaining condition in drilling hole. The purpose of this study was to determine ability to lift cutting in oil drilling wells using Cutting Transport Ratio, Cutting Concentration and Cutting Carrying Index methods. In drilling operations there are two important things must be considered in the wellbore cleaning, namely pumps and drilling mud rheology. Penetration formation layer will result in cutting due to chisel that erodes the rock so that if left unchecked it can accumulate at the bottom borehole. The speed of flow of sludge fluid is flowed, the flow pattern in circulation of sludge, and ability to lift the cutting in well are affected by mud pump to determine flow rate of pump. In addition to the value of rheology of sludge such as plastic viscosity and yield point values of mud density also affect the performance of the sludge to be a medium for lifting drill bits. Provisions on the method for lifting the cutting with the Cutting Transport Ratio method must have a value of> 90%, the Cutting Concentration method has a value of <5%, and Cutting Carrying Index has a value of 1.
