Abstract

The research concerns on the application of Dynamic Assessment (DA) in Teaching and learning. Dynamic Assessment is based on theory of Vygotsky-s, zone of proximal development (ZPD). The research is intended to investigate the effect of Dynamic Assessment (DA) in improving teaching and learning speaking of Indonesian EFL learners. DA application is used as alternative assessment which is purposively attached in Teaching English on Indonesian learners. It is focused to improve learners speaking performance by analyzing the non-fluency, the insight of students difficulties, and the needs of students. The deep analysis is obtained from learners- self-evaluation and interviews on their speaking performance. The analysis shows that the learner-s speaking performance are improved after experiencing DA session. The findings shows some positive effects of DA on learners- speaking performance which can be seen in: (1) the results of the pre-test, post-test and learners- self-evaluation during DA session. (2) learners- attitude toward DA in interview reports. From the results of the test and self-evaluation obviously describe their speaking was improved significantly. In interviews, learners show positive experiences, and attitude toward DA since it serve them a comfortable, structured, practical and meaningful platform to recognize their speaking behavior, weaknesses, strength, and needs. This study also describes incredible results that DA serves the learners to get an objective feedback, but not being objectified or judged.
