Abstract

The employment and economy data play an important role in determining development priorities in a region. The determination of appropriate development priorities based on accurate analysis is expected to encourage a more focused development in the region. This study aims to analyze employment data, both in general and disaggregated, according to urban and rural areas. This study also aims to analyze the economy of Central Java in attempt to determine development priorities. The data used in this study are taken from the Statistics Agency (BPS) covering employment data from the Central Java and Indonesian National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) published every mid-yearly during the period February 2015 to August 2018, Central Java and Indonesian GRDP distribution persentation data on the basis of Current Prices (adhb) from 2010 to 2018 and GRDP growth rate data on the basis of Constant Prices (adhk) from 2011 to 2018. The LQ method is used to analyze the employment data. Whereas to analyze the economy of Central Java, this study applied both of the LQ method and the Klassen Typology method. The results of the Klassen Typology analysis state that Central Java is a potential area to grow and develop economically. The results of economic analysis based on the LQ method show that the categories of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Manufacturing; Construction; Trading; Accommodation and Food Service Activities; Education are superior category in Central Java in terms of its contribution to total GRDP. The results of the employment analysis based on the LQ method show that in general, the category of Manufacturing and Construction in Central Java are superior category. In urban areas, the category of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Manufacturing; Construction in Central Java are superior category. In rural areas, Manufacturing; Water Supply, Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation; Construction; Trading; Accommodation and Food Service Activities; Financial and Insurance Activities; Other Services Activities are superior category in terms of the contribution of the worker absorption in Central Java.
