Abstract

Abstract - Dysmenorrhea is a pain that is felt during menstruation due to an imbalance of the progesterone hormone in the blood. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is 64.25% consisting of 54.89% of primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% of secondary dysmenorrhea. One of the factors that can cause dysmenorrhea is the age of early menarche. To overcome dysmenorrhea, can be done with exercise regularly.The aim of this study was to determine correlation between exercise habit and menarche toward dysmenorrhea in female teenagers at SMA Negeri 2 Denpasar. This study employed analytical correlative design with cross-sectional approach. There were 89 respondents recruited as the sample of the study which were selected through stratified random sampling and simple random sampling method. The data were collected by using questionnaire and analyzed statistically by using Spearman Rho. The result of this study showed that 51 respondent (57.3%) rarely exercise. 51 respondents (57.3%) were in early menarche and 36 respondents (40.4%) adolescent dysmenorrhea experienced moderate pain. There was a significant correlation between exercise habit and menarche toward dysmenorrhea in female students at SMA Negeri 2 Denpasar (p – value = 0.001). The more rarely the female teenagers doing exercise, the more pain they experienced in menstruation. The earlier the age of young menarche, the more pain they felt during menstruation. The female teenagers are expected to exercise to decrease the pain during menstruation.
