THE EFFECT OF TEACHING STRATEGIES AND INTEREST ON STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENT IN READING COMPREHENSION

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to examine whether (1) the students achievement in reading comprehension taught by using PLAN (Predict, Locate, Add and Note) strategy is higher than that taught by using RAP (Read, Ask and Paraphrase) strategy, (2) the students achievement in reading comprehension with high interest significantly higher than that of with low interest, (3) there is an interaction between teaching strategies and interest on students achievement in reading comprehension. This study is conducted by using experimental research with factorial design 2 x 2. The population of the study is the students in grade XI of Madrasah Aliyah Swasta (MAS) Al Washliyah Tembung of 2018/2019 acedemic year. The total number of population in this study is 110 students. There are two classes consists of each 32 students are chosen as sample by purposive sampling technique. The instrument of collecting the data are questionnaire and the multiplechoice test of narrative. The data are analyzed by using two-way ANOVA. The result shows that (1) PLAN and RAP strategy are significantly affect the students reading comprehension achievement.
