Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study is to compare contrast water therapy with the two other water immersion methods, namely cold-water immersion and hot water immersion in reducing levels of lactic acid in athletes when recovering. Material and Methods: 45 Badminton athletes participated in this study, and were divided into three groups. CWT group (15 participants, doing water immersion contrast therapy, with a temperature of 15º C in cold water and 40º C in hot water, with sub-repetition time of 1 minute on cold and 1 minute on hot, both of which were carried out alternately for 6 minutes). CWI group (15 participants, doing cold water immersion therapy, with a temperature of 15ºC for 6 minutes. HWI Group (15 participants, doing therapy hot water immersion, with a temperature of 40ºC for 6 minutes. Results: All groups experienced a significant decrease in lactic acid (p = 0.001). Even though all the decreases were statistically significant, however, the decrease in lactic acid in the contrast water immersion group, had a considerable decrease, measured from post-test lactate to post-60 lactate (9.50 mmol / l to 5.01 mmol / l). Conclusion: Contrast water therapy is better and more significant in reducing lactic acid in badminton athletes
