The Correlation between Social Media Use on Premarital Sex Behavior of the students at SMA Dwijendra Denpasar

Abstract

Abstract. Teenagers nowadays mostly have gadget which can easily access to the various information through social networks. Social networking brings big influence on someones life. One of the factors is it influences premarital sex behavior for the teenagers. The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between social network uses on premarital sex behavior in teenagers at SMA Dwijendra Denpasar. This research employed analytical correlational design with cross sectional approach. The population in this study was all students of XI class at SMA Dwijendra Denpasar. There were 190 respondents recruited as the sample of the research which were chosen by using Simple Random Sampling technique. The data were collected by using social network uses questionnaire and premarital sex behavior questionnaire and analyzed by the Spearman Rho Test. The result showed that there is a significant correlation between social network uses on premarital sex behavior with p-value = 0.001. The conclusion of this study is the less of using social networks, the lower of the premarital sex behavior. Therefore, it is expected to give socialization about the use of social networks and premarital sexual behavior so that they can provide f information through counseling or extracurricular activity.
