Abstract
Pain is the effect of post surgery which can cause uncomfortable feeling. Nurses as health practitioners can give intervention in doing pain management such as giving non pharmacological method. Those are rhythmic distraction breath technique and relaxation breath. The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of rhythmic distraction technique and relaxation breath on patients with post appendectomy. This research employed pre-experimental research with One-group Pre-test Post-test design. There were 20 respondents recruited as the sample of the research which were chosen by using consecutive sampling technique. The data were collected by using questionnaire, observation sheet, and guideline of rhythmic distraction breath technique and relaxation breath. The data were obtained by pain level measurement before being given intervention and after being given intervention. The intervention was given 5 minutes before given analgesic. Then, the data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon signed rank test. The result of the research showed that p-value 0,001 and r=0.63. It showed the rhythmic distraction breath technique and relaxation breath significantly decreased pain level on the patients with post appendectomy. In conclusion, pain on the patients with post appendectomy can be treated by rhythmic distraction breath technique and relaxation inside breath. Those techniques are safe to be implemented anywhere and anytime.
