Abstract

ABSTRACT Students thinking skills become a target life skill to be achieve when implementing the competence curriculum set by the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia, KKNI). The KKNI standard has prompted been applied for Chemistry curriculum in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of mathematics and natural Science Universitas Negeri Medan. The university policy has to be supported through implementing learning strategies to provide the students with appropriate knowledge and skills after completing the subject they learn. The aplication of innovative learning material is believed to be able to achieve students thinking skills along with improving their competence in chemistry. The aim of this research is to provide an develop an innovative learning material with project to be used as a learning media to improve students thinking skills requireed by the KKNI curriculum. The study is conducted by developing sets of mini projects on organic topics followed by the integration of multimedia into project packages. The learning packages are then used to guide the students to do accademic activities for independednt learning. The results showed that sets of mini projects that are integrated with multimedia have successfuly developed on the teaching of Organic Chemistry. The mini projects have been validated by experts and assigned to be standar, complete and suited to the need of undergraduate students. The learning package consisted of sets of laboratory activities, fields study, and virtual learning on the teaching of Organic Chemistry. Innovative learning packages found effective to help students to learn Organic Chemistry. The students thinking skills are improved since they are very enthutias to learn Organic Chemistry. the developed learning packages are able to guide the students to learn and to improve their knowledge and skill to meet required competence needed in the KKNI curriculum. Students learning style has been changed to become independent learning.
