Background: Hypertension is a health problem from non-communicable diseases that occurs a lot in praeldery in the Community Health Center Punggelan 1. Counseling is one of the interventions that can be applied to suppress the increase and reduce recurrence where this guidance is done by someone who is an expert to help overcome the problems experienced. This study aims to determine the effect of giving counseling to preliminary knowledge and attitudes about hypertension Methodology: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with pre and post test design with a control group. The sampling technique is simple random sampling. The number of samples was 32 respondents for two groups. The instrument uses a questionnaire. Statistical tests using paired t test and continued with Mann-Whitney. Results: The results showed that health counseling can improve knowledge and attitudes with the value of knowledge (p = 0,000) and attitudes (p = 0,002). Conclusions: Counseling can be applied to patients with hypertension in problem solving of knowledge and attitudes pra eldery about hypertension.
